“Young people should obey their elders without question” What is your view?

From the beginning of our childhood we are taught to obey our elders right? No matter what, it can be an order or a decision, one has to obey this. Our elders gained more experience in life but it’s not always compulsory for us to obey their every decisions. There are several superstitions which are being practiced over centuries by our ancestors but is it mandatory for us to follow that too, without any question?

Children re often taught to obey their elders and in some point it is granted because at this tender age one cannot understand the betterment of his or her life. in this case the e of an elder is certainly needed. Even, I believed the same until a major turn came into my life. Back in 2009, I had been to Maldives the breath taking natural scenario captivated me. The islands were mesmerizing and the nature gave a tranquilizing sensation to me. The combination of all was a perfect dream which I had been craving for. I was immensely inspired and decided to capture every moment in my camera from then onwards, wherever I went my camera was always there to accompany me. As more than a hobby, photography became a passion for me.

However, my parents did not permit rather they thought that that photography has no value comparing to other professions such as doctor, engineers etc. Moreover, it may not create a good impression in the society where a girl would travel alone to different places just to take pictures. Of course, they have more life experience and they wanted the best for me, but I did not want to compromise with my ambition. At this point I realized that in practical obey and respect do not go hand in hand. I feel that respect has to be earned and as for obedience, we should obey only to when we are convinced that what we are being asked to do is right. Otherwise it would be a blind obedience.

That is why, I tried to convince my parents about my motive and at some extend I succeeded. Sometimes ideas and thoughts conflict between people of different generations. We, therefore, should obey depending on the situations and circumstances. Hence we should use our common sense, question the motive and not obey the wrong advice. By questioning the motive does not always shows disrespect or negligence towards our elders. As a matter of fact I would like to say, that being polite and listening to our elders’ viewpoint is necessary and it displays a form of respect.

In most instances, we should we should respect those who are older than us. However we should discern between wrong and right before carry out our elders decisions.
